Conspiracy!: 49 Reasons to Doubt, 50 Reasons to Believe, by Ian Shircore

Yesterday's secrets make today's headlines. Conspiracies and cover-ups, real or imagined, have shaped our world. Now leaked cables and declassified papers are rewriting the history of our times.

The rush of new evidence - from WikiLeaks, Freedom of Information inquiries and declassified archives - has solved some classic mysteries. Yet it raises more questions than ever about the assassinations of the 1960s, the dirty little secrets of the late 20th century and the earth-shaking events of recent years.

Once you've seen what WikiLeaks has revealed about the possibility of a 5th 9/11 hijack squad, on a BA flight heading to London, you'll wonder what else they've failed to tell you about.

Once you've seen the details of Operation Northwoods, the insane plan to fake a terror bombing campaign in Washington and other US cities dreamed up by America's top 4-star generals as a pretext to invade Cuba, you'll wonder what other 'false flag' plots have been put into operation.

And once you know the real stories behind the death of Jim Morrison of the Doors, the business links between Google and the CIA, and the notorious 'Clinton body count' rumors, you'll find yourself questioning everything you see in the media.

About the Author
Ian Shircore's lifelong interest in cover-ups and conspiracies was stirred by the stream of revelations in recent years in declassified documents and answers to Freedom of Information Act requests. And he was handed a huge bonus, midway through writing Conspiracy! 49 Reasons to Doubt, 50 Reasons to Believe, when WikiLeaks published its treasure trove of secret cables. He is amazed at how big WikiLeaks stories - like the evidence that there was probably a fifth 9/11 hijack team on a BA jet bound for London - were lost in the wash as the media struggled with the flood of new information.    Bizarrely, Ian was once accused by Sunday Times journalists of being Belle de Jour, author of the sex blog Diary of a London Call Girl. His books include Manage Yourself, Manage Your Life, an NLP survival guide that has been reprinted 17 times, and Douglas Adams: The First and Lost Tapes, a little ebook based on an early, pre-fame interview with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author.

Fascinating introduction to the most popular conspiracy theories
By Pierre Verwey
This is a great introduction to get started on the most popular conspiracy theories out there. I liked the fact that the author provided a two sided view of each theory, providing both ammunition to believers and non-believers alike.

However the vast range of topics discussed is also its Achilles' heel. In covering so many different theories, Shircore does not get to look at any of them in great depth, at times leaving the reader with more questions than answers.

Overall a fun, entertaining read.

A great travelling companion !
By Tony Durant
A great book ! It deals with its various conspiracy subjects in a balanced way, allowing the reader to get the gist of the conflicting evidence in each story. A really compelling read, the reader is invited to research further should they wish. A very entertaining and informative book, I'd recommend this to anyone, and I'll be taking it with me for a second read, as good company on my next trip to Europe.

Excellent Cross=Media Presentations of Baffling Events
By Andy & Julie
An excellent presentation.

Mr. Shircore has an uncanny way of sharing both sides of each event, often supplemented with additional research, while leaving the final conclusion to the reader. The book's many URL links provide online access to additional information to make this an excellent example of the power of cross-media to greatly enhance the reading experience.

The book leaves one with a better ability to analyze both sides of current events we read about in the paper. I have shared a number of copies with friends and relatives.
